Anson Cain knows from experience that medical research can lead to life-changing treatments and technologies.
Anson has type 1 diabetes. For many years, this meant interrupting his day with insulin injections that kept his blood sugar within normal range. Today, he wears an insulin pump that automates the injection, and, as he sees it, sets him free.
“I can wake up early on a weekday or sleep later on a weekend without negatively affecting my blood glucose,” says Anson. “Snacks are no longer mandatory; they’re a choice. The freedom an insulin pump provides is life changing because it allows me to more closely live a more normal life.”
As a member of the UCI Diabetes Center executive committee, Anson is an advocate for the vital research taking place in the university’s laboratories. He knows that dedicated UCI scientists are actively pursuing treatments that could improve the quality of life for type 1 diabetics, maybe even cure the intrusive disease.
Join with us on Giving Day to demonstrate your pride in UCI and support for diabetes research. Your gift on this special day will help us reach the 50 donations we need to meet the challenge from a generous supporter that unlocks a $25,000 donation.
