Education is an important component in diabetes management. At the center, we empower you with the tools to better manage your diabetes. As with any chronic disease, diabetes affects individuals differently and no one knows your body better than you do. Whether you’re looking for classes on nutrition, exercise, or even just a support group, the center’s resources are available to help you live healthier with diabetes.

Diabetes Overview Class

Summary: This class reviews the basic skills and information needed to manage your diabetes. Topics include defining diabetes, methods to control blood sugar levels through diet, exercise, medication and lifestyle changes in order to prevent long-term complications. A free glucometer will be given to each registered person.
Fee: Free to UC Irvine Health patients, staff, volunteers and your families / $20 for community members

Diabetic Diet Class

Summary: This class reviews nutrition as one of the most important parts of diabetes management. Topics include food choices, portions and how they effect diabetes, carb (carbohydrate) counting and eating the foods you enjoy at home or away. Learning how to follow diabetic guidelines to keep your blood sugar levels at the healthiest range for you. Available snack samples and resources will be given.

Diabetes Management 3 Class Series

Summary: The goal of this series is to help you and your family understand what diabetes is and how to manage it to prevent long-term complications. Topics include the disease process, short and long-term complications, diet, meal planning, exercise and medications.  We will work with you to teach you how to monitor your blood sugar levels and your own lifestyle changes. A free glucometer will be given to each registered person.
