A Test Strip Recall That Might Affect Your Blood Sugar Testing

ROCHE ASKS FOR A TEST STRIP RECALL

Each month, the Diabetes Center provides an update on current and significant diabetes research or events. Our director, Dr. Ping Wang, a recognized leader in diabetes research and treatment would like to alert you on the following recall and warning for a commonly used glucometer.

The focus this month is on a test strip recall by Roche Diabetes Care.

  • The recall includes certain batches of Accu-Chek Aviva and Accu-Chek Performa test strips (see the list below).
  • The recall is important because using an affected batch of strips can produce readings that are either too high or too low.
  • This could lead to treatment errors.
  • While some strips may produce an error message, other strips will give no warning message and produce false readings.
  •  Faulty strips should be taken to the pharmacy that they came from.
